Vitthal has a call center job but he dreams of success as a writer. Years of struggling on the margins of society have left him disillusioned with any prospect that traditional jobs offer. His best friend, Raj, is worried about him and begs for his help to keep the night shift at their family-run garage going as they face bankruptcy. In response to this plea, Vitthal travels from Bombay to meet his best friend's family in rural India. While visiting their village, he meets a young woman named Surabhi who is struggling with her own self-doubt and poverty after being raped by men from her community. As they meet and grow closer together, Vitthal and Surabhi realize that their meeting was fate, or destiny. The two lovers find themselves parted by the social restrictions of caste and class.
